A worldwide fame
The International Piano Festival of La Roque d’Anthéron was born in 1981 after the meeting of two men: Paul Onoratini and Rene Martin. In 1981, the first notes rose in the park of the Florans Castle. They were played by the most famous pianists: Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimmermann, Zoltan Kocsis…
From the first edition, with hardly 12 programmed concerts, the Festival gained it's letters of nobility. The press already had announced La Roque d’Anthéron as an unavoidable village for pianists and music lovers alike. Nearly 9200 spectators discovered our village. The artistic director, Rene Martin, and the President, Paul Onoratini, then did not hesitate to rise to the new challenges that presented themselves...
For its 25 year anniversary in 2005, La Roque accommodated 75,200 music lovers in magical places such as the Florans Park stage, an open air auditorium located in a clearing which counts 365 plane trees, the music rising from a fairy-tale atmosphere; the Forbin theatre; the Silvacane Abbey; the Rognes Careers; the Lourmarin Temple; the churches of Cucuron and La Roque or l’Etang des Aulnes. Rene Martin orchestrated once more for this special birthday edition an exceptional programme punctuated with many high times. Recently, the Festival extended its “traditional” repertory to the jazz and the contemporary music, by integrating other musical forms like the symphonic music, the chamber music and song.
