Festive traditions
In order to fondly celebrate the beginning of the summer season, La Roque d’Anthéron honours the Cherry fruit with two exceptionally festive days.
There was a time when the cherry market of the village was renowned in all the region. To pay tribute to this tradition the first weekend-of June, the inhabitants of la Roque can appreciate market stalls with varied reds, vintage costumes etc..
Parades of Lipizzaners and carriage horses, as well as multiple animations, punctuate this week end. The procession of sheep allow the public to come back to a time when cattle would wander through the village and drink at the fountains.
La Roque d’Anthéron is one of the European capitals of cherry. Thus it maintains privileged links with Westhoffen in Alsace, Fougerolles in Haute Savoie or Vignola in Italy.
Next Cherry Feast: 2010 May 30
